WARSAW, May 20 (Xinhua) -- Former Bayern Munich striker Roy Makaay praised forward Robert Lewandowski after he led the "Bavarians" to win over Union Berlin on Sunday.

The 45-year-old Dutchman, who scored 78 goals in 129 Bundesliga games, emphasized that the Pole had a great impact on the team. Lewandowski put the German champions in front on Sunday after opening the scoring for Bayern from the penalty spot in their 2-0 victory.

"He is one of the best strikers in the world as he seems to be a complete attacker. Every season he scores more than 20 goals. Lewandowski is important also due to his work on the pitch", said Makaay in the interview for Kicker.

"It was an incredibly good movement by Bayern to hire him. We should remember that Robert came to the team in 2014 as a free transfer, it's hard to imagine", added former player.

Makaay also praised another Bayern forward and his compatriot Joshua Zirkzee. The 18-year-old made a perfect start in the Hansi Flick's team to find a net in the encounters against Freiburg, VfL Wolfsburg, and TSG Hoffenheim.

"During his year at Feyenoord in the 2016/17 season, I worked with him on striker's training when he was 16. He is undoubtedly a very talented player but also very young. I saw his beautiful goals. Now he has to play a lot to improve his skills", claimed Makaay.

After 26 league games, Bayern sits top of the Bundesliga with 58 points, four more than second Borussia Dortmund.
