Are there many traffic jams in your city?
Yes, especially in rush hour, there are so many cars on the road, and sometimes people are stuck for hours.
Yes, definitely. I think that’s probably because our living standard has improved and lots of families are able to buy a car for convenience and comfort. As a result, the road is always crowded with cars in the morning and evening when people travel to and from work.
Part 1:
What do you think of advertisements?
I think advertisements are annoying. They often pop up when I’m watching my favorite TV show or browsing a website.
Part 3:
What kind of role does advertising play in our society?
Well, advertisements are a way to spread information about consumer goods. They inform people of the latest products by introducing functions or uses in vivid pictures so that potential buyers can make decisions based on what they see from these ads. In a way, I think advertisements increase consumption and boost the economy.
In China, how has shopping changed in the past few decades?
In the past, say, 20 years ago, people did their shopping mostly in a shopping mall or department store, where they had to walk from store to store to compare prices and pay in cash. However, now we have internet and cellphones so purchases can be made electronically, and physical presence and cash are no longer necessary.
大家注意答案中的词汇替换:do shopping vs. make purchases/ in a shopping mall or department vs. electronically/ walk from store to store vs. physical presence/ had to vs. necessary
Describe a person you know who has a healthy lifestyle.
You should say:
who he /she is
how you know this person
what sort of person he/she is
and explain why you think he/she has a healthy lifestyle
Ok then, well, as soon as I saw this topic, I immediately thought of my next door neighbour, who I have to say, must be one of the healthiest people I know, as I'll shortly explain, so he's the person I'm gonna talk about.
And as for how I know him, well, if my memory serves me correctly, the first time we met was actually in the lift of our apartment block, because I had just been taking my dogs out for a walk, and by the looks of it, he had just got back from a run, cos he was in a tracksuit and was sweating a little bit. And when he saw my dogs his face lit up, so he asked if he could stroke them, and that's basically how we got to know each other.
Anyway, moving on to what sort of person he is, well, to put it simply, I'd say that he's a really sociable and friendly guy, which you can probably tell from the example I gave just now of how we met. But the main reason for saying this is that he often invites me, as well as other friends of his, over to his flat for lunch or dinner, which is really nice of him, especially considering the fact that I've never invited him for a meal before, mainly because I'm hopeless at cooking. So I kind of feel a bit guilty about that, even though he keeps telling me not to worry about it, and that also just goes to show what a nice guy he is.
Anyway, with regard to why I think he has a healthy lifestyle, well I suppose the biggest reason would be that he's a real fitness fanatic, you know, he goes for a run literally every morning, rain or shine, and I know this because, on more than one occasion, I've looked out of my living room window and seen him running in the pouring rain, which to me is kind of crazy, but to him it's just normal.
And finally I should also mention the fact that he looks much younger than he really is. You know, I couldn't believe it when he told me how old he was, because I originally thought he was in his early forties or something, but he's actually over fifty, and when I asked him what his secret was for looking so young, he simply said that he always made sure to get at least eight hours of sleep a day. So ever since he told me that, I've tried to develop the same habit myself, although to be honest with you, I'm not succeeding too well so far.
Technology
01 What can smartphones do these days?
02 Since most people do their work on computers, why do they still need to go to the offices?
03 Do you think people’s work in the future will be heavily affected by the technology?
04 Compare the pace of technological progress in the past and now.
1. What can smartphones do these days?
Well, smartphones are, after all, phones, so they can basically meet all the expectations we should have for ordinary mobile phones. That is to say, we can still use a smartphone to send text messages or make phone calls. However, smartphones are more than that. For example, we can use a wide range of smartphone applications, which have all kinds of functions, from offering discounts tohelping us keep fit. Besides, smartphones can always access internet, which means we can search literally for everything at anytime with smartphones. This sounded like science fiction in the past, but offers great convenience at present.
2. Since most people do their work on computers, why do they still need to go to the offices?
Well, I have to say, although computers can help us work out most problems, there are still many things, which need to be discussed face-to-face, so offices provide an ideal place for colleagues to meet and consult with each other. Besides, for some people, homes are very cozy and private places, not suitable for working, so they would rather commute to offices than bring work home, even though digital technologies have made remote workingavailable. Having said those, a trend of working from home as well as working flexible hours has become increasingly more popular. I think this should be attributed to the use of computer technology.
3. Do you think people’s work in the future will be heavily affected by the technology?
Well, since we are not unfamiliar with the great influences the technology has exerted on our current work, I guess most of us find it natural that technology should continue to affect our work in the future. However, it’s absurd that although we know that this would happen, we yet don’t know how. In conclusion, I think I can simply say that there will still be amazing changes on work due to the development of technology; but we can hardly sense the change until it solidly comes true.
4. Compare the pace of technological progress in the past and now.
Well, there have been technological changes all the time and it doesn’t take a genius to find them. But speaking of the pace of the changes, I think it varies. Generally speaking, things are happening much faster now than it was in the past. For example, in the past, it took several years for one up-grade of telecommunication whereas now, replacement and reproduction of mobile phones can happen within several months. This can also be applied to most other aspects of technology development.
